Transforming the Himalayas, One Step at a Time
The story of the Green Pahadi Foundation (GPF) begins in the serene yet overlooked landscapes of Pauri Garhwal, a district in the heart of Uttarakhand, India. Tucked away from the bustling Chardham route, this region has long struggled with the persistent challenge of migration. Over the past 30-40 years, migration has left traditional stone houses abandoned and communities fractured—a silent crisis that began well before the formation of Uttarakhand as a state.
Inspired by the profound words of Swami Vivekananda, “If I want to be a hunter, I’ll hunt the rhinoceros,” a group of passionate visionaries resolved to tackle this deeply rooted issue head-on. They chose Pauri Garhwal as their starting point, guided by the belief that lasting change begins at home. It was here, amid the rolling hills and quiet villages, that the Green Pahadi Foundation was born—a bold step toward addressing migration and fostering sustainable development.
From its inception, GPF has worked tirelessly at the grassroots level to create a sustainable future for the communities it serves. Its mission is clear: to empower rural India through livelihood enhancement, skill development, and capacity building. By weaving these pillars into the fabric of its initiatives, the foundation is not just addressing the symptoms of migration but tackling its core causes, paving the way for enduring transformation.
At the heart of this journey lies the silent strength of women farmers. These unsung heroes have been the backbone of GPF’s efforts, shaping its destiny with their resilience and unwavering support. Together with the foundation, they’ve become the architects of a greener, more prosperous future for their families and communities.
Rooted in community collaboration and the principles of sustainable development, Green Pahadi Foundation continues to lead initiatives that uplift lives and protect the environment. Every project is a step toward achieving its vision: a thriving society where people and nature coexist in harmony.
Join us on this transformative journey as we reimagine a brighter, more sustainable tomorrow—one step, one community, and one life at a time.
