Promotion of Women-Led Enterprises through the Creation of Millet Value Chain

In 2023, designated as the International Year of Millets, Green Pahadi Foundation conducted a hands-on training program on millet value addition. This initiative, supported by UOCB under the GoI’s Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY), aimed to revitalize traditional millet cultivation practices while fostering women-led enterprises through value addition.

Key Highlights

1.Hands-On Training Sessions

  • Practical demonstrations on creating millet-based products such as: Delectable sweets (Ragi Laddus and Chaulai Laddus), and Savory snacks (Ragi Namkeen)
  • Step-by-step guidance on product preparation, quality control, and packaging techniques.

2.Nutritional Awareness

  • Educational sessions highlighting the health benefits of incorporating millets into daily diets.
  • Reinforcement of the training’s core message: “Bring back millet-based foods for a healthy future.”

3.Women’s Empowerment Focus

  • Special emphasis on empowering women farmers, recognizing their pivotal role in agriculture.
  • Interactive learning environment encouraging skill enhancement and entrepreneurial thinking.

Project Outcomes

  • Empowered 30 women farmers through skill development in millet value addition.
  • Capacitate women with the knowledge and tools to start small-scale millet-based enterprises.
  • Enhanced community understanding of traditional millet farming practices, and the health benefits associated with millet consumption.
