Under the WDC-PMKSY 2.0, a flagship initiative of the Government of India, Green Pahadi Foundation collaborated with the Watershed Department, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, to enhance the economic growth of village community dependent on watershed by varied livelihood portfolios and promoting alternate livelihood opportunities. The project interventions aimed to not only improve livelihoods but also mobilize farmers into collective, community-driven institutions for enhanced efficiency and long-term sustainability.
Key Highlights
- Mushroom Cultivation
- Supplied high-quality input materials and facilitated the establishment of mushroom demonstration units benefiting over 600 farmers.
- Conducted comprehensive training sessions covering technical aspects such as substrate preparation, spawn management, harvesting techniques, disease and pest management, and growing room preparation.
- Assisted in post-harvest management and market linkage development to ensure improved profitability for farmers.
- Beekeeping Promotion
- Introduced beekeeping with native bee Apis cerana indica as a complementary livelihood activity for farmers.
- Delivered high-quality input materials and technical training sessions on hive management, honey extraction, and marketing strategies.
- Provided ongoing technical support and troubleshooting to enhance productivity.
- Food Processing and Value Addition
- Conducted capacity-building workshops on processing agricultural, horticultural produce, and mushrooms into value-added products.
- Provided training on packaging, branding, and marketing strategies to enhance profitability and create market-ready products.
- Dhoopbatti Making: Empowered farmers, especially women artisans, with training on the production of eco-friendly dhoopbattis (incense products) as an additional livelihood option.
- Herbs and spice processing: Conducted hands-on sessions on drying, grinding, and packaging herbal and spice products to help farmers create value-added offerings for niche markets.
- Formation of a Farmer Producer Company
- Mobilized farmers into people-driven, community-managed institutions to enhance operational efficiency in both production and post-production stages.
- Established Supnya Farmers Producer Company Ltd., officially registered under the Indian Companies Act, 2013, to facilitate collective operations, access to credit, market linkages, and knowledge sharing, with a vision to empower local farmers and artisans.
- Nurtured Supnya FPC Ltd. through consistent training, capacity building, and handholding support, ensuring successful operations and sustainable growth.
Supnya Farmers Producer Company Ltd. – a vision brought to life through collaboration and a shared commitment to rural development, is officially registered under the Indian Companies Act, 2013. Supnya was established in 2023 as part of the Government of India’s flagship initiative, WDC-PMKSY 2.0 (Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana). What started as a collective of 600 farmers has now flourished into a vibrant community of over 1,500 members, with 90% being women farmers. Supnya is actively involved in diverse livelihood activities, including apiculture, mushroom cultivation, food processing, herbal and spice product development, dhoopbatti making, and crafting handicrafts from Bheemal fiber, among others. Supnya FPC Ltd. plays a crucial role in aggregating farmer’s produce, and improving operational efficiency, for its member farmers. These efforts have fostered self-reliance and economic independence, embodying the transformative power of collective action.
With the expertise, knowledge, and dedication, Green Pahadi Foundation is playing a pivotal role in ensuring that SUPNYA becomes a beacon of success, setting an example for others to follow, and to lead with resilience, creativity, and community spirit. In collaboration with various stakeholders, GPF is facilitating the Supnya FPC Ltd. in training & capacity building, branding and packaging, market linkages, and comprehensive handholding support to enhance the livelihoods and socio-economic status of its member farmers. This recognition would further validate our mission and inspire us to scale greater heights in our pursuit of rural upliftment.
